A virtual assistant is in all definitions an employee, only that a VA is not under your payroll.

A contract with a Virtual assistant is purely a business contract as opposed to an employment contract that you give your staff.

One good thing with a Virtual Assistant contract is that you can base it on a given period or a given task.

With your employee, the contract is sometimes defined by the labor laws. You are required also to pay not less than the Government’s recommended minimum wage, and there are laws relating to the termination of the contract.

Since a Virtual Assistant is an equivalent of your employee, there are certain qualities that he or she must have to be very effective when relating with you.

1. A Virtual Assistant has to be easy to get a long with. He or she must understand that you have your own work schedule and ways of handling specific issues affecting your business. The VA must follow your orders.

2. The VA must be honest. He/she should not try ways of dodging you when the work is required, A good virtual assistant must be able to say he or she may not be able to meet your deadline when circumstances warrant

3. The VA must be able to meet deadlines. Your schedules in business should not change to fit in the shoes of the VA. He or she must adapt to your schedule

4. A good VA must also charge reasonably. The services that he or she is offering must be commensurate with the pay given.

5. A good VA ought to be innovative. Though , the VA may not tamper with your business strategies, he or she should be in a position to add value to you in whatever he or she is doing.

Ever wonder what a virtual assistant is and how you could benefit from one? Even if you have not thought about it you should because a virtual assistant can be the key that unlocks your stagnant profits and gives you a little piece of mind for a little while which as a small business owner you may not be used to. If you are still unsure keeping reading to learn the four reasons why every small online business needs a virtual assistant

Employees are expensive

Everyone needs someone who can lend a hand, but for a small online business owner the costs of hiring an employee may be well out of bounds. However, a virtual assistant works as an independent contractor so instead of worrying about tax law, insurance, and other benefits the only thing you have to be concerned about is the straight pay.

Stress relief and potential vacation time

When is the last time you took a vacation when you really got time to relax? As a small business owner you most likely are afraid to ever log off online for fear that something will happen while you are gone. Well, there is no need to worry if you hire a virtual assistant because they can watch your store while you are away.

More time for expansion

Since you have someone to assist you with the busy work that may have taken up most of your morning you can now turn your time and efforts towards development and growth. You may be amazed to see how much more you can get done since you can toss your mundane tasks to the virtual assistant.

Second pair of eyes

Most people forget that virtual assistants are trained professionals who are used to managing their own business because not only do they manage clients, but their own as well! Thus, once you get to know your virtual assistant they will get to know your business as well, and if you treat them correctly, will probably work hard offering helpful tips and suggestions as you go to improve the overall effectiveness of your business!

Do you have what it takes to be a virtual assistant but are tired of being scammed online by websites or employers that say they will pay you but you never see a dime? If you are not having much success finding real clients then you may want to read the following four tips on how to get paying jobs as a virtual assistant.

If an employer or service asks for money, RUN

First off, if you want to make a profit you should be aware that you should never have to an employer anything. In the real world you would never pay for a job and you should not expect to online either. If a client wants a deposit or payment from you then you know you will get scammed if you stick around.

Utilize social networking sites

Craigslist, Monster, LinkedIn, etc are all great social networking websites that can help you get the word about the services you provide and help you find job opportunities. You want to make sure to build a strong profile on each of these sites so that you represent yourself and your qualifications well.

Bid on freelance sites

You may also want to consider looking directly at freelance websites that are designed to help virtual assistants find freelance projects online. Elance, GetaFreelancer, and Guru are excellent contractor/provider sites that allow people who need virtual assistants to find those who need jobs.

Join an organization

Finally if you want to get the word out about your services as a virtual assistant consider joining an organization such as a virtual office temporary worker or a direct virtual assistant agency. Letting an agency find jobs for you will also help certify that you are a professional to potential clients.

One of the most popular questions that people who are thinking about being virtual assistants have is how they can start to build up clientele. If you have the same question then keep reading because there are plenty of people who are willing to hire you if you have the skills they require and know how to find the people who are looking for you.

First, you want to advertise at every opportunity. Your local newspaper can be a great place to start because you never know who could be looking to contract a virtual assistant in your area. Also post ads on online job boards and everywhere you can to spread the word that you are a virtual assistant along with your contact information.

You also will want to create business cards and brochures that you can leave in prominent locations around town such as a business bureau or any local business clubs such as Rotary or MENSA. If you are not sure what is in your area go to the Business Networking International website and take a look at your local listings.

Finally you will want to create a massive advertising campaign in which you mail your information to businesses both through snail mail and email to let potential employers know about your skills and services as a virtual assistant. At the same time you will want to join an official virtual assistant group which will not only help add to your resume but also show clients that you are serious about your career as a virtual assistant.

If you own a small business for a specialty item one of the best ways to increase your profit is by heading online. Running a website can be done with little startup costs and the payoff is you will reach a much wider variety of consumers than the people in your town. On the internet specialty items do much better than in storefronts given the fact that the audience is wider and most people turn to the internet to find items anyhow.

Of course, if you have limited experience with the internet one of your first fears may be how to properly run your new online storefront which is why you may want to look into hiring a virtual assistant. A virtual assistant is much like a traditional secretary only they are responsible for maintaining your business online. Thus, you may want to look for a virtual assistant who has experience with web design and website construction so they can lend their expertise when it comes to selling and running an online store.

Plus, one of the perks of hiring a virtual assistant is that you can pay them by task and project instead of as a full time employee which means it will be much easier to budget into your small business. Additionally they are responsible for their own taxes so you do not have to worry about any of the added costs that hiring a new employee will generally incur. If you are serious about getting the most out of your small business then hiring a virtual assistant to help with the construction of your own virtual storefront is the first step to a prosperous future.

Do you run a business that you want to add a customer service line to but are unsure how you could possibly man the lines all day? Why not copy larger companies and outsource your care line to a professional virtual assistant. Known as virtual receptionists, it can be very easy to find a virtual assistant online who is trained to deal with clientele on a daily basis making it easy for you to get your service line up and running.

In fact, the only thing you will have to do is provide your virtual assistant with information on your company and direct them as to what type of complaints or frequently asked questions they will receive. From there they can handle the professional side of affairs and take care of your customers for you so that your workday is not tied down to answering the phone. Additionally, they can also schedule appointments and meetings for you as well if you want to use your virtual assistant as an appointment setter as well.

One key benefit of taking advantage of a virtual assistant is that you can bring a higher degree of sophistication to your business by allowing consumers to contact you but without sacrificing your own work time. This is especially true for online businesses where consumers like to call and verify their orders before placing an order just because a site looks legitimate. By building legitimacy into your business with a virtual assistant you will see your sales rise along with customer satisifaction.

Want to streamline your business? Why not consider hiring a virtual assistant to help you out with the smaller details so that you can concentrate on decisions and development plans that only you can make decisions on.

Oftentimes, businesses that are started online fail to grow their full potential because there is not enough time in the day for one person to take care of small details and development and marketing plans at the same time. While the minute details of a business such as mailing and billing may be the cornerstone of where your revenue comes from you will never see an increase in your return until you move forward.

Thus, if you find that you have been operating your business on your own for over a year and have still not managed to significantly grow it may be time to look for a virtual assistant. An assistant can aid you in the bookkeeping, accounting, and data entry so that you can concentrate on expanding your business. Additionally, if you need help with web design or SEO marketing to enhance the popularity of your website you can hire a virtual assistant who specializes in this type of work.

This is one of the main benefits of hiring a virtual assistant because you can usually find a speciliazed assistant in all categories. Due to the wide span of the internet it is possible to find several choices in very little time and start to get help immediately where you need it so that you have an increase in time to concentrate on expanding your business.

Just because you hire an employee online does not mean that you have to trust their word that they are trained to do the job. In the real world you would check references and test your employee’s skills in order to ascertain if they are the right fit for your company online. Well, the same should be true when you hire a virtual assistant online and can be if you take the following steps to checkout your candidates before sealing the deal.

One of the first things you should do is ask for references from every virtual assistant candidate you are considering. Even if they cannot get references from clients online due to the nature of the virtual world (which should not be high of an expectation but in some fields its possible) they should have past employers and a few friends that you can call as character references. If a virtual assistant is not willing to provide you with references then you should not be willing to hire them.

Next, it is not a bad idea to assign a trial project or test file to a candidate to see how they do completing it. You might drop the wage a little with the guarantee that if the trial goes well there will be a direct raise after a week. This way you get an indication right away if a virtual assistant has the skills you need and if the level of work they can complete is worth your time and money or not.

Have you ever entertained the idea of how much easier it would be to run an online business if you had a little aid, but felt limited by the fact that you work out of your home? Office space can be hard to find and afford both if you live in the city and in the suburbs. Thus, you may have dismissed the idea as farfetched despite its appeal and continued to spend hours tied to your business when you would rather be out having some fun for once.

Well, no longer does space have to be a concern when it comes to hiring a new employee because the field of online virtual assistants is firmly taking hold and for once you have options. When you hire a virtual assistant they provide you with secretarial duties that range from typical duties to special online duties that are uniquely tailored to your business. You can even find virtual assistants who are trained to work directly in your area of business such as real estate virtual assistants and product placement virtual assistants.

Thus, not only do you receive the aid that you desperately need in order to run a business online and still have a personal life, but you receive the expertise of someone who has worked in your field previously and may be able to offer you advice. The combination is quite appealing, especially if you are looking to expand your business and its revenue.

Oh and of course, here is the kicker, the virtual assistant works out of his or her office so you can rest easy with your current lack of space!

Outsourcing is the new wave of the future, and believe it or not even the smallest company can make use of outsourcing to cut expenses and save money. Interested to hear how your small online business can save some money? Two words: virtual assistant. Most likely if you are a small company that runs out of a small office or maybe even your home hiring an additional employee seems impossible. Not only do you not have the space, but you do not have the expertise to navigate labor laws.

Well, here is the great thing, when you hire a virtual assistant you do not have to worry about either of these things since a virtual assistant works out of their own home as a freelancer. This means that you do not have to worry about W-2’s or health benefits and you can hire a virtual assistant to work right away since you will not have to build an office to house a secretary.

How can you benefit by outsourcing a secretary? Because when you choose a virtual assistant over a secretary you will get more than just someone who can schedule your appointments and keep track of office duties. You also can get someone who is highly skilled in web design, bookkeeping, various software, and practically anything else you need for your business.

In some cases a virtual assistant becomes more like a partner since they can offer you aid in areas that you may appreciate the guidance. However, here is the number one perk, since your virtual assistant gets paid by project you are the only one who gets to reap the rich rewards of their input!
