The first thing you must do is to start with a website which has not been submitted to search engines and online directories. It would be best if you search for appropriate domain name and begin optimizing your home page. Next thing for you to do is to familiarize yourself with the use of HTML; most often your rankings would depend on how you use your HTML code.

You also have to wisely and keenly choose a keyword. Be sure that your keyword is relevant to your site and that your keywords would be what people would be searching for. Do not choose complicated and very hard to use keywords, choose the common ones and be specific if you must.

Aside from choosing a keyword, you must also use these keywords on your page. Be sure to optimize and use your keywords on your page since search engines would look into the number of times you use your keyword and base their results on it.

But tweak your page again and again, this is not advisable and you are only advised to make a few changes on your page at least once in a duration of three to six months.
